Hachinohe Gakuin University consists of the “Faculty of Community Management,” the “Faculty of Health and Medical Care” and the “Department of Midwifery,” which provides an optimal environment for students to realize their dreams for the future, Our dedicated faculty and staff work together to provide full support.
The Faculty of Regional Management offers three courses (“Public Policy Course,” “Business Management Course,” and “Regional Industry Course”) designed with the professional image of being involved in management in all areas of regional society. The courses are designed to provide students with the knowledge necessary to pursue careers in each of these three courses. In addition, the Faculty offers a full range of teaching courses for students who wish to become teachers of commerce and information science.
The “Faculty of Health and Medical Care” consists of the “Department of Human Health” and the “Department of Nursing. The Department of Human Health offers required courses to deepen students’ understanding of health science related to the mind and body, and elective courses to acquire basic and practical skills in a wide range of fields such as medicine, physical education, psychology, nursing, welfare, environment, and nutrition. In addition, the Health Management Specialist Course aims to develop the ability to respond to the health needs of modern society and to obtain certification as a general health management specialist, i.e., a specialist in preventive medicine. The Health and Sports Course enables students to learn the knowledge and skills to create exercise programs based on scientific evidence and to effectively teach and manage them. The Health Education Course is designed to prepare students for careers in education (health and physical education, child care, public health, and nursing). The Health Psychology Course is designed to qualify students to become certified psychologists with standardized knowledge in psychology, and the Health and Welfare Course is designed to qualify students to become nationally certified social workers.
Students take courses in each program according to their career goals. In addition, a special program for elementary school teacher training has been established, allowing students who are expected to obtain a first-class junior high school teaching certificate and a first-class high school teaching certificate (health and physical education) in their third year to obtain a second-class elementary school teaching certificate. The Department of Nursing was established in April 2008 as a result of the reorganization of Hachinohe Gakuin University Junior College’s Nursing Department (a 3-year program) into a 4-year program. The purpose of the transition is to nurture “applied nursing practitioners who have a rich humanity and high sense of ethics with a broad education, the ability to make independent judgments and take action, and basic research skills, and who provide nursing care based on scientific evidence in the community health care field. The distinctive features of the human resources
to be trained are to foster “rich humanity and high ethical standards,” “independent judgment and ability to take action,” and “basic research skills” on the basis of the basic nursing education required of nurses, and in order to foster these abilities, the program includes “specialized introduction subjects,” and “basic specialized subjects,”. In order to develop these abilities, students take courses from the following subject groups: “Introduction to Nursing,” “Basic Specialty Courses,” “Specialty Courses,” and “Research in Nursing. In April 2025, the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Health and Medical Care will open its Shimokita Campus. In April 2025, the Mutsu Shimokita Campus of the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Health and Medical Care will be opened to foster human resources who can contribute to healthcare activities and health promotion in the Shimokita region.
The “Department of Midwifery” opened in FY2023 and was established as a one-year basic midwifery education course to foster midwives who can meet the diversified needs of society and women in recent years and to produce midwives stably in the southern Aomori region. The course consists of five subjects: “Fundamentals of Midwifery,” “Practical Midwifery,” “Integration of Midwifery,” “Midwifery Practicum,” and “Midwifery Research.” Upon graduation, students are qualified to take the national midwifery examination and become a fertility control instructor.
