Hachinohe University

Our University comprises the Faculty of Regional Collaborative Creation, the Faculty of Human Health Sciences, the Faculty of Nursing, and the Specialized Course in Midwifery. We provide an optimal environment for students to realize their future dreams, and our faculty and staff work together as one to offer our full support.

The Faculty of Regional Collaborative Creation includes the Department of Regional Collaborative Creation. With a focus on career paths in management across all sectors of local communities, the department offers three courses: the Public Policy Course, the Business Management Course, and the Regional Industry Course. Each course features foundational subjects designed to equip students with the knowledge necessary to pursue careers in their respective fields. Additionally, the department offers a comprehensive curriculum of teacher training courses for students aspiring to become teachers in commerce and information technology.

The Faculty of Human Health Sciences comprises the Department of Human Health Sciences. It offers required departmental courses designed to deepen students’ understanding of health sciences related to the mind and body, as well as elective courses that provide the foundational knowledge and practical skills necessary across a wide range of fields, including medicine, physical education, psychology, nursing, social welfare, environmental studies, and nutrition. Furthermore, to foster the ability to address the health needs of modern society, we offer the “Health Management Specialist Course,” which aims for students to obtain the qualification of General Instructor for Health Management Specialists; the “Health and Sports Course,” where students learn the knowledge and skills to create evidence-based exercise programs and effectively instruct and manage them; and the “Health Education Course,” which prepares students for careers in education (Health and Physical Education, School Nursing, Health, nursing, and Type 2 Elementary School Teacher) in the field of health education; the “Health Psychology Course,” which aims for certification as a Certified Psychologist to recognize the acquisition of standard knowledge in psychology; and the “Health and Welfare Course,” which aims for certification as a Social Worker, a nationally recognized qualification. Students select courses primarily from their chosen program in accordance with their individual career goals.

The Faculty of Nursing comprises the Department of Nursing. A distinctive feature of the program is its focus on cultivating “rich humanity and high ethical standards,” “independent judgment and initiative,” and “basic research skills” on top of the foundational nursing education required of nurses. To foster these abilities, students take courses from the following groups: “Introduction to Specialized Subjects,” “Basic Specialized Subjects,” “Specialized Subjects,” and “Nursing Research.” Upon graduation, students not only qualify to take the National Nursing Examination but, for those enrolled in the Public Health Nurse Training Program (selective admission), the curriculum also enables them to qualify for the National Public Health Nurse Examination. Additionally, in April 2025, the “Mutsu-Shimokita Campus,” dedicated to the Department of Nursing, opened to cultivate professionals who can contribute as nursing practitioners to healthcare activities and health promotion in the Shimokita region.

The “Specialized Midwifery Program” was established in April 2023 as a one-year foundational midwifery education program to train midwives capable of addressing the diverse needs of society and women in recent years, and to ensure a stable supply of midwives in the southern region of Aomori Prefecture. The curriculum for basic midwifery education consists of five subjects: “Fundamentals of Midwifery,” “Midwifery Practice,” “Integration of Midwifery,” “Midwifery Clinical Practice,” and “Midwifery Research.” Upon graduation, students are eligible to take the national midwifery licensing exam and qualify as certified family planning counselors.
